Backend / API Engineer
Python, Django/FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Docker — REST APIs and systems that hold up.
Why hire me as Backend Engineer?
Backend is my home turf. I design REST APIs, normalized PostgreSQL schemas, authentication flows, background jobs, and the deployment around them. As primary backend contributor at TransData I authored the majority of a multi-tenant SaaS codebase; at VeritusLabs I led a 4-engineer team on real-time drone systems. I care about clean contracts, observability, failure handling, and zero-downtime deploys.
What I've shipped
- Owned the core backend of a multi-tenant SaaS platform end to end as primary backend engineer — 7 services and 60+ REST endpoints with Django REST Framework
- Built REST APIs and normalized PostgreSQL schemas for an industrial parts-estimation workflow with authenticated, user-scoped access
- Refactored duplicated AI-assisted entity-validation flows into a unified Python/MySQL pipeline, cutting maintenance overhead
- Built real-time WebSocket notifications (Django Channels), OAuth2 + JWT refresh auth, and Stripe-based subscription billing
- Deployed multi-service backends with Docker, Nginx, Celery, and zero-downtime rolling updates on DigitalOcean

Work that directly demonstrates this specialisation.
AI-Powered LinkedIn Content Platform
Primary DRF backend developer for a production AI-powered LinkedIn content platform. Built 7 backend services and 60+ REST endpoints, including versioned prompt management across AI content pipelines (n8n), multi-tier profile extraction (LinkedIn API → scraper → OpenAI fallback), real-time notifications via Django Channels WebSockets, Stripe-based subscription billing, OAuth2 + JWT refresh auth, and semantic search using Gemini embeddings + pgvector with Redis caching.
- 7 backend services
- 60+ REST endpoints
- Gemini + pgvector search
AI-Driven Cryptocurrency Intelligence Platform
Architected a real-time intelligence backend as sole engineer, ingesting social data from Telegram, Discord, and X and processing it with Google Gemini embeddings and pgvector semantic search. Built async multi-chain blockchain analysis services with token-bucket rate limiting and Redis caching, plus ML-based DEX scam-token detection. Orchestrated ~10 services via Docker Compose with migrations, background workers, and structured logging.
- ~10 microservices
- 6 chains analyzed
- ~92% scam detection (test set)
Industrial Parts Cost-Estimation Backend
Built REST APIs and normalized PostgreSQL schemas for an industrial parts cost-estimation and quote-generation platform. Implemented data-ingestion pipelines transforming UI-submitted manufacturing data into structured backend records, and created authenticated access patterns so AI/ML services could fetch user-specific estimation data for automated quote generation.
- Normalized PostgreSQL schemas
- Authenticated data APIs
- AI/ML quote-generation feeds
Enterprise HRMS Migration & Automation
Migrated and extended a Django-based HRMS (Horilla) for a ~200-employee workforce with full backend ownership. Built attendance, contract, and reporting modules, implemented ZKTeco biometric sync via Web API, designed a multi-device biometric schema, and built monthly/day worksheet reporting endpoints. Deployed a Dockerized system on DigitalOcean with Nginx, Celery background jobs, structured logging, and zero-downtime rolling deploys.
- ~200-employee workforce
- ZKTeco biometric sync
- Reporting + manager dashboards
Drone Swarm Control System
Led a team of 4 building a QGroundControl-based drone swarm controller supporting 10+ UAVs with 50Hz telemetry. Enhanced custom Qt/QML ground control, optimized swarm control with multiprocessing, and built a high-throughput MQTT telemetry pipeline (designed for ~10K msg/sec) with multithreading. Built Gazebo SITL multi-drone simulation and custom mission-planning tools, with Dockerized CI/CD and Vagrant-isolated environments.
- Led team of 4
- 10+ UAVs · 50Hz telemetry
- MQTT pipeline (~10K msg/sec design)

What backend engineering experience does Mubashir Rehman have?
Mubashir has 3+ years of backend experience in Python with Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI. He was the primary backend engineer on a multi-tenant SaaS platform (7 services, 60+ REST endpoints), owning it end to end, and has built database-backed APIs, background-job pipelines, real-time WebSocket systems, and Dockerized deployments.
What databases and infrastructure does he work with?
PostgreSQL and MySQL with Redis for caching, Celery and n8n for async workflows, and Docker, Nginx, GitHub Actions, AWS, and DigitalOcean for deployment.
Has he led a team?
Yes. At VeritusLabs (Jul 2023 – Mar 2025) his title was Team Lead & Software Engineer, and he led a team of 4 building a QGroundControl-based drone swarm control system for 10+ UAVs at 50Hz telemetry. He also spent over two years as a Teaching Assistant at Information Technology University, mentoring 60+ graduate students in Advanced OS, Virtualization, and Distributed Systems and guiding 15+ research projects.
What real-time and async experience does he have?
He has built real-time notifications with WebSockets via Django Channels, background-job pipelines with Celery, ARQ, and asyncio, and an MQTT telemetry pipeline designed for roughly 10K messages/sec using multithreading and multiprocessing. On the data side he uses Redis for caching, queueing, and token-bucket rate limiting across async services.
Does he handle deployment and DevOps, or only application code?
Both. He deploys the backends he builds: multi-service Docker and Docker Compose setups behind Nginx, GitHub Actions CI/CD, and zero-downtime rolling updates on DigitalOcean. He has also automated AWS infrastructure with Boto3 — VPCs, EC2, IAM, and ECS Fargate deployments.
Is he available for remote backend roles?
Yes — he is open to remote roles in any timezone. He is based in Lahore, Pakistan, and on-site work in Lahore is also an option.
